Presenter of BBC Radio 1Xtra’s Monday to Friday 1-4pm show, Stockport born Yasmin Evans began her radio career at the age of just 15 presenting on one of Manchester’s most prominent community stations. It was then that she began collecting vinyl’s and originals, developing a taste for eclectic urban music influenced by old school R&B, Hip Hop, House and Reggae.
Yasmin studied Radio BA (Hons) at the University of Salford where she was approached by the BBC to take part in their piloting scheme. She was offered the 1Xtra Weekend Breakfast Show and after just 9 months in that slot she became the co-host of the 1Xtra Weekday Breakfast Show which she presented for 3 years. 2016 saw Yasmin given her own solo afternoon show on BBC 1Xtra every weekday which she continues to host.
It was announced that live Saturday morning kids TV would be making an anticipated return to UK screens and Yasmin was named as the co-host of Saturday Mash Up! alongside Jonny Nelson. After a successful three month run the show was recommissioned and Yasmin returned, as well as present the BRITS International Live Stream and gave her first TEDx Talk at the University of Manchester in the same year.
During her time at the BBC Yasmin has fronted a range of their major events including 1Xtra Live’s coverage on the BBC Red Button and online content as well as presenting Radio 1’s Big Weekend Backstage. She has worked on Sport Relief shows and even taken part in Celebrity Mastermind.
Outside of her broadcast commitments, and inspired by her Grandmothers open kitchen policy, when she is not busy working Yasmin can be found in the kitchen experimenting, researching and documenting new recipes and ingredients.
