Pappy's Fun Club was established in July 2004 as a comedy collective, performing sketches, stand-up, character acts and music at regular shows in The Old Coffee House, in the Soho area of London. In 2005 the team began performing sketches at comedy nights on the London comedy circuit.
They made their self-titled début appearance at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2006, as part of the Free Fringe. In February 2007, Pappy's Fun Club was nominated for Best Newcomer at the Chortle Awards, by the website Chortle.co.uk.
In August 2007 the team returned to the Edinburgh Fringe with their second show, again self-titled. This second outing attracted the attention of the national press, and a nomination for the 2007 if.comedy award (formerly the Perrier Comedy Award and now the Foster's). They have returned every year since. In 2010 appearing for the first time as "Pappy's".
On 15 November 2007 the team appeared on the BBC Three comedy programme Comedy Shuffle. Also on this date, a special edition of the comedy podcast Answer Me This! was released featuring Pappy's Fun Club as special guests, taking turns to answer questions submitted by listeners alongside regular hosts Helen Zaltzman and Oliver Mann.
In March 2008 the team recorded a self-titled pilot for BBC Radio 4, broadcast 12 May 2008.Also in March 2008 Pappy's Fun Club recorded a self-titled ComedyLab for Channel 4 television, broadcast on 28 August 2008. This pilot was not picked up for further development.
On 13 June 2009, Ben Clark and Matthew Crosby appeared as Ed and Oucho impersonators on BBC Two's Transmission Impossible with Ed & Oucho.
