'Metamorphosis' is a 6 minute hand balance act, set to a piano piece by Phillip Glass, with the same name. Loosely based on Kafka's 'Metamorphosis', this act is a slow, methodical, strong and stunning exploration of entrapment, by body and environment, through movement and handbalancing, creating beautiful shapes and positions on a set of 4 specially made canes.
Reuben defies gravity and death with acrobatic stunts and balances you need to see to believe. The show that has it all – humor; handstands; and holding on for dear life. With a one handed balance 15 feet up in the air, concrete never looked so hard…
Reuben was born in Melbourne, Australia. At the age of 11 he discovered gymnastics and spent the next 5 years training and competing. At the age of 16 he looked at his competition leotard, realised that purple and gold were not his colours, and quit. He spent the next 2 years of high school, surfing skating, and snowboarding. He continued to nurture these passions through the first 2 years of his degrees in Computer Science, and Philosophy, and subsequently failed them both.
Reuben then began training in earnest to become the Entertainer he is today. On his way he acquired (completely legally) a diploma in small company/community theatre, a huge range of circus and performance skills from trainers and programs all over Australia, and a completeloss of vertigo.
Reuben trained, from 2006-2007, at the International Acrobatics School of China. He specializes in Chinese Poles,
Handbalancing, Adgio, and Bounce juggling. In 2009 he was contracted to Cirque Du Soleil as their Chinese pole specialist for 'Saltimbanco'.
