Photographer, National Geographic and National Geographic Traveler contributor Catherine Kernow has an extensive portfolio of work. Known for her vibrant, emotional and sensitive style of photographing people, she has covered everything from Australian Aborigines and victims of Agent Orange in Vietnam to London's financial district and Connecticut high society, and also regularly shoots for Smithsonian, French and German GEO, and other top international publications. In additional to covering a wide range of travel and human interest topics, she is a seasoned public speaker, and frequently gives lectures and workshops around the world.
Catherine Karnow was born and raised in Hong Kong, the daughter of an American journalist. She seems to have been destined to become a travel photojournalist. After a brief career as a filmmaker, she turned her attention to photography full-time in 1986. Since then she has covered Australian Aborigines, Bombay film stars, and Connecticut high society. She accompanied General Giap on his historic 1994 return to the northern Vietnam highlands, and she photographed Prince Charles for a National Geographic feature, “Not Your Typical Radical.” Catherine’s images have appeared in National Geographic, National Geographic Traveler, Smithsonian, and French and German GEO. Catherine is a seasoned public speaker, and frequently gives lectures and workshops around the world.
In her popular seminar "The Art of Travel Photography: A Master Class Seminar with National Geographic Photographer Catherine Karnow," she shares extraordinary images and anecdotes and the stories behind her photos, as well as tips and insights on shooting travel photography. This might be nice to offer your clients' guests just before they depart on their summer holidays! Catherine will be in London, Rome, and possibly Bucharest in May and June 2011. She is available to travel throughout Europe.
Through lectures, slide shows, location shooting, intense review sessions, and passionate discussions, Catherine can teach you not only how to see with enhanced vision, but how to think like a travel journalist—an explorer who gets beneath the surface to reveal the substantive essence of a place. When you embark on a journey beneath the surface, serendipity and adventure are the inevitable outcomes—and that is the stuff of great travel stories.
