Reverend Bernice King is perhaps best known as the daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

With an oratorical style reminiscent of her father's, Reverend Bernice King carries forth Dr. Martin Luther King's message of social and racial equality. From the pulpit, in her books and speeches, and through her community activism, Rev. King is an advocate for the rehabilitation of at-risk youths, utilising both her Divinity and Law degrees to keep teenagers from cycling through the legal system.

As a nationally renowned orator, Reverend Bernice A. King has inspired thousands from all walks of life. In 1980, at age 17, she spoke in her mother's stead to the United Nations on Apartheid, thus realising her oratorical gift. The youngest child of Coretta Scott King and the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Bernice King is remembered by most as the five year old in the Pulitzer Prize photograph taken of her as she lay in her mother's lap during her father's funeral. As a child, she dreamed of becoming both a lawyer and a politician, but God had yet another road for her to travel. It was at age 17 that she first heard "His call," but it wasn't until eight years later, on March 27, 1988, that she formally accepted "the call" by preaching her trial sermon at Ebenezer Baptist Church. She was ordained two years later in May of 1990.

Rev. King holds a BA degree in Psychology from Spelman College and on the morning of her Ordination, she was not only awarded a Master of Divinity degree, but also a Doctorate of Law degree from Emory University. Rev. King has also received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Wesley College.

Presently, she is the assistant to the pastor at Greater Rising Star Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA. Although Rev. King has received awards and recognitions from various civic, religious, corporate and political organisations, she has not failed to realise that "to whom much is given, much is expected." As such, she devotes time mentoring teenage girls.

As a previous law clerk in the Fulton County Juvenile Court System, Rev. King experienced first hand, the growing number of teens that have become double victims: first of society; and second of an ineffective legal system which operates on retribution rather than rehabilitation. As a result, Rev. King has become an advocate for the rehabilitation of at-risk youths.

Rev. King's first book of sermons and speeches is entitled Hard Questions, Heart Answers.

For her thoughtful opinions and proposals to tackle some of our society's toughest problems, and for her inspirational message, Dr. King was named by Ebony magazine as One of The 50 Leaders of Tomorrow.
