Alison is an experienced presenter, reporter and commentator, who spent 8 years on the staff of BBC Radio Sport before turning to a freelance career. She is Britain’s only female cricket commentator and has toured to every Test playing nation to cover the England team for Radio Five Live and Test Match Special.

She was co-presenter of the Phil Tufnell Cricket Show on Five Live and has a breadth of experience, having covered cricket World Cups, the Ashes, Wimbledon, the Olympic and Commonwealth Games, World Snooker Championships and more. She writes for The Wisden Cricketer and has a TMS blog on the BBC Sport website.

Having been a Broadcast Assistant at BBC Radio Northampton during her student days, Alison began her formal career at BBC Radio Leicester then the BBC Asian Network, giving her a specific insight and understanding of the lives and culture of British Asians throughout the UK, and an invaluable focus on the current affairs, sport, politics and culture of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Prior to qualifying as a journalist she had worked as a Runner for Channel 4 Cricket, looking after the crew and making tea and coffee for the likes of commentary box legend Richie Benaud.

Alison covered her first Test match in 2003 and traversed the country covering County Cricket for Five Live before becoming the regular Sport Presenter on the network’s Richard Bacon show. Her first England cricket tour was to Pakistan in 2005. Alongside the major events she has covered since then, Alison has been a regular sports news reporter, interviewing Premiership managers, footballers, athletes, golfers, rugby players and key figures in sports governing bodies.

In 2007, she conducted what turned out to be the last ever interview with former England batsman and Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer, before he died in suspicious circumstances during the Cricket World Cup. Police announced a murder enquiry – a story Alison broke on air and had to cover single handedly for all outlets as the only BBC reporter in Jamaica at the time.
